Our choice of clothing can affect not only our mood, but also our health. Recently, it was discovered that there are still hidden reserves of natural materials.
Nature can dress us from head to toe
Everything we come into contact with can affect us in some way. And whether that is positive or negative depends on the specific situation.
The materials that clothing and footwear are made from also affect our well-being and health.
· There’s probably no need to emphasise that natural materials will always be more beneficial for our bodies than those produced industrially.
· If we move on to the consequences, we could ask ourselves the question whether it’s better to wear a plant or crude oil.
Natural materials such as linen, cotton, silk and wool have proven themselves over centuries in the production of fabrics.
· Silk probably has the most limited use.
· However, it makes up for it by the fact that the products made from it are truly beautiful and luxurious.
Linen has a much wider range of options, but it’s also slowly receding into the background. Even wool doesn’t place very high on the chart. Although it agrees with our bodies, its presence is also limited.
Cotton, bamboo and hemp
The strongest group of natural fabric products is undoubtedly formed by those made from cotton. Cotton is a material with many options. For example, we’re all familiar with terry and satin. An advantage of cotton is its softness. Cotton is an extremely pleasant material to touch, and can also absorb a high percentage of moisture. It’s therefore popular in the production of clothes, hand and bath towels, and last but not least, bed linen and sheets. Cotton is used for ordinary items such as hand towels and dishcloths, in the production of clothing from trousers to shirts and sweaters, and even luxury underwear. Any item you can think of in your wardrobe or chest of drawers, you’d definitely find a cotton version of it in the shops.
· Thanks to their properties, cotton fabrics are even suitable for newborns.
There is one material, however, that’s beginning to tread on cotton’s heels. And that’s bamboo.
· Given the fact that the plants designated for textile production have never come into contact with any chemicals (they grow wild), they don’t contain any harmful substances.
· Moreover, this fibre can be used for the production of practically any type of clothing.
- From socks to trousers and shirts.
However, bamboo isn’t the only newly discovered material. Hemp also has excellent properties. It can even capture 100% UV radiation. Another advantage is its high absorbency. Hemp clothing has a great future, particularly for people suffering from more serious dermatological problems.
